ZooNumeria is maths practice for children in Key Stage 2. This page explains, in plain words, what information the app keeps, why, and how to have it removed.

Who is responsible

When a school uses ZooNumeria, the school decides which pupils are added and why, so the school is responsible for its pupils' information. ZooNumeria looks after that information for the school and only uses it to run the app. Parents using ZooNumeria at home are responsible for their own child's information.

What we keep

• Teacher or parent: an email address, used only to send sign-in codes. There is no password.
• Pupils: a first name or nickname, a year group, the year they work at, and a picture chosen by the app. We ask teachers not to enter full names, dates of birth or anything about health or additional needs, and there is nowhere to type them.
• Work: each answer a pupil gives: the topic, the question, whether it was right, and how long it took. This is what the teacher's progress report is made from.
• Devices: a rough device name (for example "iPad · Safari") so a teacher can see where they are signed in, and which home device a child uses if the teacher has given them home access.

We do not use advertising, tracking or analytics, and we never sell or share information for marketing.

Cookies and storage

• One cookie keeps a teacher signed in, for up to 30 days. It is only set when a teacher signs in.
• The tablet keeps pupils' answers and the class list so lessons work on poor wi-fi. These are encrypted on the device and sent to the server when it can.
• The device also remembers which child is using it, which phases each child has opened, and the sound on/off setting.

How it is protected

Emails, pupil details and answers are encrypted on our server. See the Security page for more.

Who else handles it

• Email: sign-in codes are sent through Resend (the email address and the code only).
• Hosting: DigitalOcean, London data centre (United Kingdom).

How long we keep it

• Sign-in codes: 10 minutes.
• Sign-ins: 30 days, or until the teacher signs out.
• Pupils and their work: until the teacher removes the pupil or deletes the account. Both are real deletions, not hidden.

Your rights

You can see, correct or delete information at any time: remove a pupil from the class list, or delete the whole account in Settings. Before deleting, the account page lets you save every pupil's report as a PDF. For anything else, or to make a request about a child's information, contact our contact address or the child's school. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
